The Good, The Bad & The Ugly.

First week back at work. Let's go! I knew this week would be a challenge. Would I manage to fit some runs in and work? I don't want to over do it again and exhaust myself. Well, this is how my week panned out. Unfortunately, I did not make it out for Thursday night run fun with Chorley Runners. I had been to the gym on Monday, and to a gig on Tuesday. I gave myself a rest from the gym on Wednesday and I just thought, take a week off.  I was very proud of myself for listening to my body, as much as I missed going out on Thursday night, but, there will be plenty more Thursday night runs in the future. Parkrun Saturday 🌳 This was Parkrun number 35! Only 15 more until the great 50! I shot up out of bed thinking I'd missed my alarm as the sun was blaring through the curtains. Nope. 1 minute to 20 past 7. Just get up. But I didn't want to. I really did not want to run this morning. I looked at the weather, and after last weeks storms, I would be stupid to pass up this beaut...

The Calm before the Storm..

So this week has been a very interesting one to say the least. It appears we cannot go a year without a storm, but how are you supposed to fit in running when there are three storms predicted in one weekend.. Well, lets find out shall we... Thursday I am not the best at checking the weather. If it looks nice outside, it's nice outside. My brother had got a new addition to the family (a dog) and so I just HAD to go and meet the little man.  8 Week old Puppy 💕 My aim is to train him up as a running buddy around Parkrun.. but we will hold off on that for now, seeing as little bear doesn't even like going out in the back garden!  The weather was lovely, I had my jeans and trainers on as I was going to meet my good old friend Sophie for a 10k dog walk with Bailey after all of the puppy snugs. Sophie and I were going to do the reverse route that I did the other week around Cuerden and Buckshaw, but at a much slower pace as we had little Bailey dog with us. The weather was wonderfu...

The slower pace of life..

This week, (or last week, as it is Wednesday and I am only just doing this weeks blog!) I mentioned I was supposed to be "resting" and taking the slower pace of life.  I couldn't cope with that so went out on Thursday night with one of my favourite local groups, Chorley Runners. The thing I love about Chorley Runners is that they are all so friendly, and have regular meet ups at local races. I am yet to order myself a shiny CR top, but at the moment, due to other commitments I only tend to go to their Thursday evening runs. I'm starting to ponder shaking up my training routine, which would mean I could possibly attend a second session but this is all currently just airy fairy in my head! (I digress...) So, Chorley Runners, Thursday night. It is a 7k session. This is only my second time attending, due to other commitments but I love these Thursday night runs because; its dark, and, I have absolutely no clue where I am because they run around an area of Chorley I have n...

Who Let The (Mad) Dogs Out?

Parkrun #32. This week, we took the slower pace of life as we, (Sophie and I) brought her dog Bailey, to Parkrun. Bailey has run Parkrun before, the last Parkrun of 2021, as I was just recovering from Covid and it was a wonderfully festive affair. Knowing the speed Bailey did last time, Sophie and I dressed for the elements with numerous layers on. We were fine to have a slower day today, with Mad Dog the following day. However, it seemed Bailey had other ideas. It was also a great week as our friend James, ran his 25th Parkrun! He is slowly catching Sophie and I up, yet only started coming to Parkrun with us just before Covid hit, so I would say that this is a much better feat than Sophie and I's 25th. (we started in 2019...) His family came along to cheer him around and join in with the Parkrun festivities for the morning. After seeing all of our usual friends and smiling faces, we made our way to the back of the pack, we didn't want to get in the way of anyone getting a pers...

Look for the path between the trees.

Saturday - formally known as 'Parkrun Day.' 🌳 A no pressured run today. For the first time I didn't look at my watch to see what pace I was running at - until I got to the finish line. (33.58) I could feel some niggles so I didn't want to push it too much. Lots of regular faces back so a nice, social run, on a nicer than average January Saturday morning. Because of this, I certainly over estimated the weather and, it was certainly shorts weather - which I did not have on. I've read a great piece of advice on Twitter this past week. Dress for the your 2nd mile, not your first. & this is absolutely the mantra I need to take from now on. However, this is not filling me for much excitement of standing on Southport front on Sunday morning (6th Feb) for Mad Dog.  I was still happy to have finished in the 33 minute bracket, which, tells me that I am improving. One thing that running is really teaching me is that it really is the long game. Starting running I was so im...
