Malaga Half Marathon

Image
Well well well.. I've not been here for a while. Did you miss me? After a pretty special weekend, I thought that it was only right that the blog was revived for a Malaga special. Next week, I might even do a round up of the year, seeing as my running has taken a huge turn this year and I actually cannot believe how far I've come. But! Let's get down to the main event. So, back in July, when the weather was delightful and running was very much a welcome sport, 13 lions all booked onto the Malaga half marathon which was Stu's birthday present. We unfortunately were a lion down, but they were not forgotten and their presence was certainly missed. 💕 Fast forward to December and the one weekend our great country is gifted with snow... is the morning that we had to get up a 2am to get to the airport. The pre flight beer went down a treat, but there were many mutterings of " remind me why this was a good idea again ?"  2 and a half hours later and safely landed in ...

Finish line not finish time

Have you ever seen a sight more beautiful than this?   Here it is. The big event. This blog has taken me so long to write because of a multitude of reasons.  1. I was on a huge high from the weekend, and I've still been replaying the whole experience over and over again, that I was there. 2. I am equally absolutely exhausted from the weekend, I thought I would sleep in the car on the way home, but again. I was on too much of a high.  3. Work. (I have no other words on this front.) So, here we go.  It was quite a long journey to Saturday. What with events unfolding on Thursday evening of the Queen's passing. My excitement had been subdued because we did not know if the run was actually going to go ahead. It was said that we would know Friday morning. Way to put a blow on something I've been looking forward to for 9 months. The website wasn't updated until lunchtime. We (Paul, James, Shelby, Haile and I) were on tenterhooks as to whether we would be seeing each other ...

7 days and counting...

Well, here we are. I'm a bit numb on what to say really. As I'm typing this, it is 12.45pm so hopefully, this time next week I will be at the finish line with that medal around my neck, a pint in my hand and probably a LOT of tears!  As I mentioned last week, this week has been probably the most challenging of the lot, due to my strain I've had to do the unthinkable and, rest . So this has of course meant no running. So, what on earth am I going to talk about in this week's blog? Well, I think it's probably about time I did some reflection on this "journey" I have been on.  So, this whole Great North story began probably this time last year. Parkrun had started up and I was going pretty consistently. I'd achieved 10ks (probably not at the best times) but I could run 10k. The age old thing of "If you can run 10k you can run a half marathon." I had always said. I will never do a half marathon. But then the seed was planted and very quickly tur...

12 days and counting...

Hello!  Gosh, another week has gone, I didn't do this one on Sunday because of the bank holiday.  Mr & Mrs Coxy enjoying Bank Holiday Fun. No running gear in sight! We are now 12 days away from the Great North Run. Things are getting rather exciting.  Grab a brew, let's pick up where we left off shall we? Adventure Tuesdays! Wild Women on the shoreline of Marles Wood,  warm and accomplished.   I don't usually blog about Tuesdays, but this was a fairly special one. A group of us, over summer had voiced an interest in wild swimming. Of course, this was when it was baking hot and the idea of getting in any bit of water would be much appreciated.  We had chosen 23rd August. Last week, I did say "So, are we still on for wild swimming?" we all went a bit sheepish, but, we did not back down on our word. We congregated in our group chat and sorted out logistics and such. It was only when we were in the car, that things began to get a bit real.  Wild...

"If we can still see Stu, we're in trouble."

You would think, that with it being the summer holidays, I would have all the time in the world to do my blog, but the reality is... I've been so incredibly busy which is why it is only now I am getting round to writing it. Even my own Mother has called me out on the lack of blogging this week.. (Sorry Mum!) So, without further a do let's see what this week (or, last week) has / had in store. Wednesday Lion's run  🦁 A nice bit of normality. However, the getting TO the run was pretty stressful this week (Thanks LCC for the horrendous road works) I got there and things instantly brightened up. It was a week of the Netflix run, but with the added challenge to look for the Jubilee signs that have been put up along the route. I won't lie, after learning that I'd missed about 8 because I was chattering, and just using all my might to get up the hill, I nipped it in the bud that Jess would definitely beat me on this challenge. (Jess was walking due to a back injury). If y...

Jambo!  (Hello in Swahili)  My position in the safari van. Have you missed me? It honestly feels so long ago since I posted a little blog - I've been on my honeymoon! I must admit, when I was restless on the plane I did regret not bringing anything to type up a blog on, but, the break really did do me good! I will do a little bit on the honeymoon - because, well, of course I didn't keep still! But, before I went on my great adventure there are 2 runs that I have not yet blogged about. I'll be honest, they feel forever ago so I shall try to remind myself. Naturally there was;  Lions Wednesday 🦁 This run was really lovely. We did some new parts of Brinscall / Wheelton that I was yet to explore (Yes, of course it was hilly) It was quite warm, but we were still able to run. I ran with Ginny and it was on this run that Wednesday Run Book Club was born! I was after some good reads to delve into whilst away and Ginny recommended some [Where the Crawdad Sings & Dais...
