Lytham Hall Parkrun
Well, after the crazy weather we have had this week over the Jubilee Bank Holiday, I think we were all grateful for the sunshine to break through for a right royal Jubilee Parkrun day today.
For myself; and it transpired, for most Preston Parkrunners it was a perfect day for touring to Lytham Hall today, chasing PBs and a little bit of forced tourism as our local Parkrun event was cancelled.
This only became apparent at the first timers briefing when there was an echo of “Preston” from the majority of people who had decided to visit Lytham Hall for the first time.
Thank you so much to Sue Henry, who had the great job of welcoming us all to Lytham Hall to deliver the first timers run briefing, it was much appreciated, but meant I also took to the course in trepidation, hearing of parts such as “Kamikaze Corner” and half laps.. - no one needs to do extra laps!
In fact 55 of us decided to grace Lytham for the first time this week. Not all from Preston, there were also people from as far as Australia, London and Edinburgh taking on the 2.5 lap winding, shaded course this morning.
We also had 6 people who completed their first ever Parkrun this morning. Congratulations, and I hope that you come back for more Parkruns and enjoy the wonderful community that comes along with being a Parkrunner.
We chose not to park in Lytham Hall but enjoyed the walk up to the hall, and what a wonderful morning it was for it. We then started recognising faces, clearly, Lytham was a popular choice. In fact, 228 of us ran / walked and jogged the course this week.
What a beautiful course Lytham Hall is too. A lot of us were very grateful for the lack of hills, and it was great to experience more of a trail run this week. It’s always good to change up the terrain. We were able to experience “music corner” and “kamikaze corner” and the wonderful encouragement from all the volunteers this week. Especially the gentlemen who coined my new favourite phrase. I managed to muster a smile for; “smiles make the miles go faster.”
I was taken aback when it was announced that there were in fact 30 volunteers out on the course this week. We all know, Parkrun cannot possibly run without volunteers, so a huge thank you to our Hi-Viz Heroes.
